RFSAT activities include:
- Near Infrared (NIR) spectrometer-based detection of forest fire ignitions from micro-UAVs
- Large area 3D modelling from micro-UAV image/video observations in visual and thermal ranges.
- Real-time streaming of video from micro-UAVs as well as long range FPV flight control.
- Operation of autonomous swarms of micro-UAVs for cooperative mission execution.
Details about the implementation of the fire detection system in the AF3 project can be found at the "Forest Wildfire Management" page where the technology behind the UAV-based photogrammetric 3D modelling and surveillance of forest wildfires has been detailed. The original embedded device integrated NIR micro-spectrometer connected to Raspberry PI Zero-W2 and deployed on an UAV. Since then also an Android application has been developed for use on smartphones that now supports all of the Ocean Optics micro-spectrometers and offers a variety of tools for diverse use case scenarios where such micro-spectrometers could be used.
The application is available on Google Play store
